Dr. Bruno Petinaux obtained his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College in 1998 after finishing his undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois in chemistry. He completed a transitional internship at the Jersey Shore Medical Center in New Jersey. In 1999 Dr. Petinaux began his emergency medicine residency at GW Hospital in Washington DC and finished as chief resident in 2002. Upon graduation he joined the faculty of The George Washington University at GW Medical Faculty Associates working clinically at the GW Hospital, where he currently holds the rank of Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine. In addition Dr. Petinaux served as the Clinical Director for the GW MFA operation in the Emergency Department at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Washington DC Veterans Administration Medical Center for over 10 years. In addition to clinical leadership, Dr. Petinaux’s emergency management expertise includes being a Medical Team Manager for the Virginia Task Force 1/USA 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team as well as having served for 14 years in the US Army Reserve. He served as the Co Chair of the GW Hospital’s Emergency Management Program and as Emergency Management Track Director for The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences as well as Disaster/EMS Fellowship Director. Dr. Petinaux has served in a number of capacities within emergency management working very closely with the healthcare coalition and serving as a core member representative in the DC Health Health and Medical Coalition. In March of 2016, Dr. Petinaux became the Chief Medical Officer at the George Washington University Hospital focusing on quality, safety, and medical staff matters. In his role, Dr. Petinaux participates in a number of committees at the DC Hospital Association and the Association of American Medical Colleges. Dr. Petinaux is also a member of the Board of Trustees of GW Hospital and DC CRISP. In October 2024, Dr. Petinaux became the interim Chief Medical Officer for the newly opened Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center in Washington DC and transitioned to Market Chief Medical Officer for the DC Region in February 2026. He also serves as the Privacy and Patient Safety Officer.
