Stephen Dorner, M.D.
Chief Clinical and Innovation Officer
Mass General Brigham Healthcare at Home
Stephen Dorner, MD, MPH, MSc is the Chief Clinical and Innovation Officer at Mass General Brigham Healthcare at Home and a practicing emergency physician at Massachusetts General Hospital. In his Healthcare at Home role, Dr. Dorner leads the design, implementation, and ongoing process improvement of key service lines and capabilities, shifting the site of care from the hospital setting into the home. His primary responsibility is the growth of Mass General Brigham's Home Hospital, which provides acute inpatient care episodes within the comfort of patients' home environments as an alternative to traditional hospital-based care. Since launching in 2017 as pilot programs at our two main academic medical centers, Mass General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, the Mass General Brigham Home Hospital has grown into one of the largest full-length-of-stay Home Hospital offerings in the country, delivering acute episodic care, while expanding access, generating facility-based capacity, improving quality, and delivering a more patient- and caregiver-centered experience. In his role as an emergency physician, Dr. Dorner's clinical expertise and operational insights drive his work to address the gaps, inequities, and deficiencies in the healthcare system. He earned his MD from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, MPH from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and MSc in Global Health from Trinity College, Dublin.
